Bollywood star Akshay Kumar’s ‘Bell Bottom’ includes release in cinemas

Theater owners in India sigh of relief with the first major Bollywood production locked in a theatrical release following the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic that hit the country.

Akshay Kumar’s spy thriller ‘Bell Bottom’ is scheduled for July 27 in India, with the news confirmed by the Bollywood actor himself through a video he posted on his social media accounts.

‘I know you waited patiently for the release of #Bellbottom. Could not have been happier to finally announce the release of our film. Arrived on the big screens worldwide # BellBottomOn27July, ‘Kumar endorsed the video.

A UAE date for the film has yet to be announced, but it appears that the project will be released after the Eid Al Adha weekend.

The film was to be released earlier in April, but the release had to be pushed to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Directed by Ranjit M. Tewari, ‘Bell Bottom’ also features Vaani Kapoor, Huma Qureshi, Lara Dutta and Jackky Bhagnani. Reportedly in the 80’s, the film sees Kumar play a secret agent and is characterized by hijacking of planes. Dutta plays former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film.

‘Bell Bottom’ was in the news this week after Kumar refuted an allegation from an entertainment portal that he had been commissioned by the producer, Vashu Bhagnani, to pay for the film. The actor confirmed the same in a tweet: “How I feel waking up with FAKE Scoops!” while sharing a link from the article with the alleged news.

The news release quoted an industry source as saying that the producer of ‘Bell Bottom’ would now spend 300 million less than the actor’s original fee after Bhagnani mentioned financial constraints due to the pandemic. The producer also refuted the claim in a separate own interview with a news portal.

Last month, there was a conversation that fans could see a double bill from Kumar at the cinemas on India’s Independence Day weekend, referring to ‘Bell Bottom’ and ‘Sooryavanshi’, led by Rohit Shetty. The latter film has been postponed several times over the past one year following the closure that hit India in 2020. The Reliance Entertainment version was scheduled for a movie outing earlier this year, but had to kill its plans again when the second wave hit.

With the rumor mill in the air, Kumar at the time issued a statement assuring his supporters that they were working on concrete plans. “I am humbled by the excitement and eagerness of my fans over the release of ‘Sooryavanshi’ and ‘Bell Bottom’ and would like to thank them for all their love,” Kumar said in a statement. ‘At this point, however, it is speculative to say that both films will appear on Independence Day. The producers of both films are working out the release dates and will make announcements at the right time. ”

Fans are now eagerly awaiting the release of ‘Sooryavanshi’, the latest installment in Shetty’s police manal, which also includes ‘Singham’ and ‘Simmba’. The main stars Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh, who starred in the films, have a cameo in ‘Sooryavanshi’, while Katrina Kaif plays the lead role of the woman.
