Dubai: DP World, Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) in the UAE region, saw a 12 per cent growth in its healthcare and pharmaceutical products customer base between 2019-2020. To promote their commitment to the growth of healthcare and pharmaceutical businesses, DP World, UAE Region and Jafza will be participating in Arab Health 2021, one of the leading medical equipment exhibitions in the Middle East. As one of the major contributing sectors in the Free Zone, the healthcare and pharmaceutical segment is one of the major economic pillars in Jafza. The segment covers an area of approximately 170,000 square meters and currently has 174 companies from 41 countries, the segment employs 1,100 employees. In 2019, the volume of trade in the segment was 25,000 tons, worth Dh900 million. ‘The boom in the healthcare and pharmaceuticals segment in Jafza has highlighted the core competencies of the Middle East sector and the seamless connectivity, DP World, UAE region, to more than 3.5 billion consumers through the highly efficient trade and logistics center in Jebel Ali, which includes Jafza and the Jebel Ali port, ”said Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World – UAE Region and Jafza.
The health care sector in the UAE has expanded rapidly to meet the evolving needs of the population, helping the country to become a regional center for medical tourism. Partnerships and initiatives by government and private and public enterprises help to achieve these goals. In addition, Jebel Ali Port has temperature-controlled warehouses and also consists of nearly 10,000 reference points spread across the terminal to power refrigerated containers and support pharmaceutical trade.
