U.S. announces 1,262 COVID-19 deaths in 24 hours

Washington, August 6, 2020 — The COVID-19 coronavirus has killed another 1,262 people in the United States in the past 24 hours, according to a Johns Hopkins University count.

The country also added 53,158 new cases of the virus, according to the Baltimore-based institution’s tracker. The US has now registered a total of 4.82 million cases, resulting in some 158,000 deaths, making it by far the worst affected country in the world.
